Officials from the Washington County Health Department can confirm Washington County’s first positive case of COVID-19.

On Tuesday April 7th, 2020 at approximately 10:30 am, the Washington County Health Department was notified of the case. The individual, a female in her 20’s, is currently in isolation. The individual is able to assist public health by providing information about their case.

Our public health officials are investigating this case, speaking with individuals who the patient may have come into contact with before the confirmed diagnosis. The method of transmission is being investigated.

Across the country, laboratories and healthcare facilities are striving to increase Covid-19 testing, with this effort the Washington County Health Department anticipates that more cases will be confirmed. Locally, we want to remind the public that we can all do our part to limit the spread of illness by social distancing and following public health guidance; washing hands frequently, disinfecting commonly touched surfaces, and staying home while sick.

The Washington County Health Department is part of a multi-agency response team that was organized on March 18th after the Washington County Commissioners activated the county’s emergency operations center.
